More than two years after shocking assassination of Ján Kuciak and his fiancée, another Slovak journalist from the same newsroom faces a death threat. Data analyst Peter Sabo found a pistol bullet in his mailbox – informs editor-in-chief of Aktuality.sk, Peter Bárdy.
Sabo works as an expert on tax frauds and evasions, he wrote e.g about the drug underworld in Sered and about the cases connected with the former Minister of Justice Gábor Gál. According to news published on Aktuality.sk, this suspected death threat occurred on Thursday, June 25. „I would really like to believe that it was a kid’s joke, but after the experience of more than two years ago, I know that if it’s not a joke, it can kill” – writes Peter Bárdy. Police and the Ministry of the Interior were immediately informed about this case.
Reporter Jan Kuciak and his fiancé Marina Kusnirova, both 27, were found dead on Sunday, February 4th 2018 – each killed by a single shot in their newly purchased home. Kuciak had been working with the Organized Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP), the Czech Center for Investigative Journalism (CCIJ), and the Investigative Reporting Project Italy (IRPI) on an investigation that delved into the infiltration into Slovakia of the ‘Ndrangheta mafia, one of the world’s most powerful and fearsome criminal groups.
